Alicante:
Alicante is a coastal university city with an impressive tree lined promenade. One of its main attractions is its ancient mountaintop castle (Castillo De Santa Barbara) which the Carthaginians began to erect in 200 BC and was completed by Bourbon Monarchs in 18 BC. Castillo De Santa Barbara boasts panoramic views of the city and its exclusive harbour from where you can take a trip to the beautiful Balearic Islands.
Keen shoppers will revel in Alicante`s quaint boutiques and grand department stores and like many other towns on the Costa Blanca, Alicante also hosts an array of restaurants and bars that won’t break the budget so, should you fancy making a night of it, you’ll certainly find a bustling atmosphere here!
Elche and La Marina:
South West of Alicante, lies the inland city of Elche. As well as its prosperous leather industry, Elche is famous for its majestic palm trees. There are tow enchanting parks to visit here: El Palmeral containing 200,000 different specimens of palm and Huerta Del Cura with a wide variety of plants and trees from around the world!
Elche is steeped in History and houses and archaeological museum located on an excavation site where the “Dame De Elche” of the 4th century BC was discovered.
Some of the architecture in this city dates back to the 16th century such as the “Bascilica De Santa Maria” which is well worth a visit!
Just a short drive from the city of Elche, lies the urbanization of La Marina which is predominantly popular amongst the Brits. Close to the beach, with a strong community spirit and plenty of facilities, this is a great place to start a new life. Whether for retirement or bringing up your family, La Marina could be just what you’re looking for!
Guardamar:
Situated on the River Segura, the picturesque town of Guardamar is surrounded by rich farmland of orange and lemon groves, almond trees and various other crops. Its main attraction is its 11km stretch of natural golden sand with a backdrop of shady pine forest. The forest, originally planted to prevent the movement of the sand dunes, is now a beautiful nature reserve and is a popular place for cool walks and picnics.
You will find everything you need in Guardamar from ice cream parlours, restaurants, shops and bars to a wide variety of sports facilities including tennis courts, a large municipal pool and a well equipped sports complex.
Your will also sense a strong family atmosphere here in Guardamar, especially if you take an evening stroll along the tree lined promenade where the craft market and fun fair come to life!
Torrevieja:
Torrevieja is a cosmopolitan town hosting a wide variety of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and many local flamboyant fiestas! This town caters for all the family and you can take part in many activities such as: walking, snorkeling, swimming and horse riding. It is also worth knowing about the new cycle path which circles the Torrevieja salt lake.
You will find many clubs and societies in the area so you will not need to leave your hobbies behind: whether you take part in dance, drama, art and craft, tennis or bridge, this area has a great deal of choice!
Torrevieja’s fabulous Friday market is certainly not to be missed. It sells everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to housing accessories and gifts and if you want to make a day of it then why not “shop until you drop” in Torrevieja’s abundance of boutiques!
Perhaps you wish to simply relax and soak up the rays, then head for one of Torrevieja’s sandy white beaches which have been awarded with the EC’s “Blue Flag” so you can be assured of safe bathing and quality recreation for you and your family.
